My Real-World Experience After 9 Months of Daily Use
I’ve had this Tapo security camera installed for about 9 or 10 months now, and it’s been absolutely brilliant! We originally set it up to spy on our puppy while we were out, watching her grow up and helping us look after the house. The camera has proven itself time and time again with its reliability and impressive feature set.
Design and Flexibility
The actual product is surprisingly small and easily adaptable to any room. I find it really easy to just put on the back of the sofa if we want to move it, or place it on the mantle piece if we need to. But here’s something really cool – you can actually install this upside down! It’s got brackets at the bottom for ceiling mounting, and it comes with the screws and mounting plate included so you have everything you need right out of the box.
Incredible 360-Degree Coverage
The lens on this camera is absolutely amazing. It has a full vertical tilt of 114 degrees, which is massive! You could have this on a shelf up high and be able to pan it down and view almost directly below. But the truly incredible thing is it’s got 360-degree rotation one way and the other, so it has complete surround vision of what you want to track or look at.
The App Makes All The Difference
The Tapo app that comes with this camera is where the magic really happens – you control the whole thing with your phone! You can log in from a different city and instantly see what’s going on with great quality picture. The interface is intuitive with features like talk, pan and tilt, emergency calls, and tons of settings all easily accessible.
Real-Time Control With Minimal Lag
I was genuinely impressed by the responsiveness. Using the little joystick in the app, I can spin the camera all the way around in either direction. The picture quality is absolutely fantastic, and you’d expect quite some delay going through the Wi-Fi, but it’s literally about half a second which is absolutely amazing! When I wave my hands in front of the camera, I can see myself doing it in the app with virtually no delay.
Two-Way Audio Communication
One of my favorite features is the talk button in the app. The camera has a loudspeaker that allows you to hold down the talk button and speak to whoever’s in the room – or even communicate with your pet or your children. It’s an absolutely fantastic feature, and that audio is two-way so they can speak to you as well!
Storage and Recording Capabilities
You can actually record all your video and store it directly on the camera. If you lift the lens, there’s a little micro SD card slot at the bottom where you can pop in a card. I think it supports up to 256 gigabytes, so you can record and do proper surveillance with plenty of storage space for your footage.
Additional Security Features
Beyond the basics, this camera is packed with extra security features. It has excellent night vision for monitoring in the dark, and there’s even an alarm function where you can ring it from your end and it alerts with an alarm sound where the actual system is located. This is perfect for getting someone’s attention in the room or deterring intruders.
Multi-Camera Setup Options
Here’s something I really love – you don’t have to just stick to one camera! You can buy multiple units and set up one for your kitchen, your living room, your bedroom, and in the app you can actually choose which one to view like a proper surveillance system.
